About the Region
The Maine Highlands region is pristine, wild, and offers a slice of Maine that you can’t find anywhere else. Located smack dab in the heart of Maine, our area encompasses two counties, Maine’s tallest peak, Maine’s largest lake, and a cosmopolitan hub that helps you reach it all. Spend your day exploring some of Maine’s most gorgeous waterfalls, trails, rivers, and lakes—and enjoy an elegant meal with locally sourced ingredients at night. And don’t miss out on our wonderful breweries, local museums, and theaters!
Adventurers of all ages flock to The Maine Highlands all year long. People love to hike our peaks, ride our rapids, sleep in our campgrounds, and explore our trails on snowmobiles and ATVs. Our region is mostly rural, and people like to visit with their friends and family to escape the stress of their daily lives. The Maine Highlands is a great place to unplug and unwind!
