There is no better way to connect as a family than to put technology away and get out into nature! The Maine Highlands has thousands of acres of wildlife to explore year-round. We are home to some of the very best hiking, snowmobiling, and ATV trails in the state. We also have miles of rivers for a whitewater rafting, or kayaking adventure!
Our small towns and rural communities host some of the most fun family festivals and events in Maine. From the Whoopie Pie Festival in Dover-Foxcroft to the International Sea-Plane Fly-In in Greenville to the Trails End Festival in Millinocket and the American Folk Festival in Bangor, you’ll want to plan your visit around these main events.
The Maine Highlands is also home to four state parks: Baxter State Park, Mt. Kineo, Lily Bay, and Peaks-Kenny. Pack your bags, grab your tent, and spend the weekend in our pristine surroundings. You can even rent a kayak or canoe during your stay for a nominal fee. Don’t forget your Maine Passport Book! You’ll want to be sure to get stamped at these state parks, and others around Maine, for your collection.
Put The Maine Highlands on your family vacation bucket list and explore Maine’s big backyard with your loved ones!
