With so much woodland area accessible and views that you can’t find anywhere else, The Maine Highlands has the perfect serene winter wonderland you’ve been looking for. An excellent way to connect with nature, cross country skiing and snowshoeing allows one to appreciate nature while getting outdoor exercise that is hard to find during the snowy months. Many health enthusiasts and physiologists have stated that cross country skiing is one of the best aerobic exercises, burning as many as 600-900 calories an hour!

With thousands of groomed trails around our region, there’s no reason not to get outside and explore. Pack your binoculars and search for wild birds or woodland creatures, like eagles, deer, and foxes. Contact the local Chamber of Commerce in the region where you want to set out and they’ll let you know about the best trails to hit! Below is a list of some of our favorite groomed trail systems:
